He was born on the 6th of February in 1911 in Illinois. Ronald Reagan went to High School in Dixon and worked his way through Eureka College. He played on a football team and acted in school plays. He was what one would call an All-American Boy. In 1937 he got a contract with Hollywood and, over the next twenty years, appeared in over 53 films. In 1952 he married his second wife, Nancy Davis, who was also an actor, and had two children. He also had two children from his first marriage with actress Jane Wyman.
In 1980, Reagan won the Republican nomination and chose George Bush as his running mate. Reagan beat Jimmy Carter with 489 electoral votes and took office on January 20, 1981. 69 days later, he was nearly killed by a would-be assassinator. That didn’t stop him, though. He was back on his feet and in office not long after.
But every hero must have his flaws, and Reagan was no acceptation. There’s always that blessed little thing called a loop-hole. Reagan found it.
American involvement was strictly prohibited. Reagan found his jolly old way around that quiet easily, and still provided aide in two separate military initiatives.
Reagan denied any knowledge that the National Security Council sold weapons to Iran. This was illegal because it went against Reagan’s no negotiation policy and violated the U.S.’s policy in not choosing sides.
Many people were fired and fined and give jail time because of this. Still, though, Reagan denied any knowledge, saying that he probably didn’t remember. Bush, the Vice President did the same.
In 1992 those who were fired or otherwise had some action taken against them were cleared of all charges. Neither Reagan nor Bush had any charges ever brought against them.
It may never be known if Reagan had any knowledge of this act or not. There’s no way to know now; he’s dead. Well, unless whispers from the grave can be heard… listen close.
